Brand: Maytag washer Model Number: MVW4505MW0 Main Symptom: It will not lock, thus it will not start. What happens & when: When you start it it sounds like it is trying to lock but doesn’t, so the washer wont go into cycle. We have replaced the locking mechanism and the strike on the lid and it still does the same thing. My next guess is the control board. Am I right or should I look into something else? This is getting frustrating and I’m almost to the point of calling a repairman. This washer is only 3 years old. Should I be having problems this soon? My last washer lasted forever.
Error Code (if any):
Parts or tests already tried: New locking sensor and new strike

Based on the design of this model, does the lid appear to dip down in the center? This can happen if heavy items have been placed on top of the lid, which causes the outer edges to lift slightly—just enough to prevent the lid lock from engaging properly.
Try lifting the lid and firmly pressing your palm into the center area to raise it slightly. Then close the lid again and see if the lock engages. Hopefully it’s a simple fix like that!
If the issue continues, let us know and we’ll be happy to keep troubleshooting with you.
Ok, I went home and tried what you suggested and it is still having the same issue. My husband tried to reset the machine using a resetting pattern we found on youtube. Now, when you try to turn it on to start it is still trying to lock with no success and every other light in the start panel row comes on in sequence and when you push start again only the last two lights on the end light up. Please advise. Thank you.
Thank you for the update. Could you let us know which specific reset pattern was used? Also, can you describe the exact LED flash pattern you’re seeing now?
One more thing to try—press down firmly on the lid right where the strike enters the lock and hold it down, then try to start a cycle. Does the washer respond any differently when you do this?
First of all, when you start the machine, you push the power button and then the start button and it will light up all the lights on the panel and it will start the machine. Then it will lock and calibrate the load and start filling. After trying to reset machine to see if we could get it to work, when we pushed the start button every other light on the panel will light up and then go off, then the two panel lights come on at the very right end of the panel, but it doesn’t do anything. We have tried holding the middle down to help with the locking mechanism, but it still doesn’t lock or start.
Based on the calibration method being applied and the washer’s failure to sense the lid lock, the main control is likely the cause of the issue. According to the information on the item page, this control board is a plug-and-play type, meaning it does not require additional programming. You can view the part and details here:
