Maytag Washer 9400 top load won't start

I have a hand-me-down washer from my parents when I moved into my house 4 years ago. I was changing the settings on the knob, and then all of the sudden the machine would not start.

So, I checked the outlet by plugging in my sweeper, and the outlet worked. I also checked the breaker box, and nothing blew there.

So, I pulled off the front control panel, and noticed a little fuse that was blown. So, I replaced the fuse, and it blew again right away.

SO, I have no idea what to do next?

I can supply pictures of anything if needed.. I just need help!! Please

Thanks,!

Todd

That model number didn’t come up but I am thinking you are talking about the lid switch. On the lid switch there are two switches and a fuse if the switches are not working properly the fuse will blow. I suggest replacing the switch assembly 22001682. Part Details - WHIRLPOOL Switch, lid assembly, part number: 22001682 Take a look at this part and if it doesn’t look like that you are looking at in the control panel recheck your model number and disregard this post. If this looks like the lid switch on your washer replace it. hope this helps! Maytag Washer Repair Guide

Yes.. that is the switch that is on my unit, and that is the fuse that is blowing out. I’ll go ahead and order that part. Thanks!!!

Thanks.. the new switch solved the problem! Saved me $65 for a person to come out and look at it!

Ok.. I put the switch in, and it actually gets power now. But, all the cycles work except the spin cycle, and the water will not drain at all. Please help! Thanks!

ANother thing to add that is that none of the settings seem to want to come on, then just randomly it works after tinkering with turning the knobs around, turning on and off. I believe it could be the other switch on the lid this time. ? ideas? I hope… b/c otherwise from reading it could be the transmission,.. If thats the case, I’ll find another used washing machine.

If you could post the complete model number, which has three letters in front of the number, it would help us to help you with the diagnosis.

A9400 is listed at the model number on the metal tag There is another number on the tag that says Listed 745G I think it may be the timer now. I can’t get it to start now.. so the timer, heck anything could be wrong.. I have to figure out a way to drain 3/4 drum worth of water out of it now.

Remove the drain hose from the stand pipe and lower the end below the level of the tub. It’ll siphon out. Have two or three 5G buckets handy to drain into. I think you’re right about the timer. Here’s the part number: AP6006690.
