Maytag top freezer door seal replacement

The seal on my top freezer Maytag fridge was never quite right, leading to ice build up in the freezer. Finally, past warranty, decide to try replacing it. Ordered part from this site and received today - hooray! BUT, I’ve tried several times to install, I’ve soaked it in hot water, tried the blow dryer, and still the seal has more gaps than the old one I’m replacing. Any ideas?

Hopefully you can find a useful information here: http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/refrigerator-freezer-repair/42057-ge-refrigerator-how-do-i-get-old-fresh-door-gasket-off-new-part-wr24x446.html or here: http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/refrigerator-freezer-repair/46091-magnetic-seal-fridge.html

Thanks, Gene. I’m going to try the oven: any idea how long? The blow dryer didn’t work, nor did hot water (as suggested on the box). The problem isn’t with gasket fitting into the groove, but with lack of a tight seal between the door jamb and the seal itself.

I never did it myself.

I believe a duct tape should work.

Okay, the over was a disaster area. Wrecked the new gasket in no time. Back to square one.
