Maytag Stackable Topload Washer Won't Agitate

I have a Maytag stackable washer / dryer, model LSG7806AAE. Recently, my wife reported that all of a sudden it would no longer advance past the water fill cycle. Since then, I have taken it apart, and tried to fix it. Here is what I have tried:

[LIST]

  • Checked the belts, they are fine.
  • Moved the belts back and forth, they do so freely, doesn’t seem to be a problem.
  • Checked the fuse by the water pressure switch with a voltmeter, it is fine.
  • Checked the lid switch with a voltmeter, it works. There doesn’t appear to be a fuse with this lid switch.
  • Tried to check the motor with a voltmeter, I think it’s fine.
  • Checked the timer resistance with a voltmeter and found resistance in the circuit. I replaced the timer with a new timer (which reads 0 ohm resistance). Still not fixed, same symptoms.
  • Tried advancing the timer to other parts of the wash cycle, but nothing happens (same as before). It won’t go past the fill stage.

I am not sure what is next. I have attached a wiring diagram. Ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated!

There are two parts to the lid switch. I would say go ahead and replace the lid switch/check switch. That sounds like your problem even though you have checked it out.

sidfink43, you are right! I took another look at the lid switch, and it has two parts (I had assumed it was just one switch). The smaller switch was no longer working, and I tested the washer by jumping the wires. Thanks for your help!

Great, glad you got it working and thanks for the update. Good luck with it going forward.

I had a similar problem but it turned out to be that the switch assembly mechanism’s metal “see-saw” pivot arm (interfaces between the lid and the two open/close switches) was slightly bent and could no longer change the state of the primary lid switch.
