We have a Maytag side by side, model MSD2735GR. While I wish I could justify getting rid of it (I’ve never been a huge fan of it), we need it to last several more years.
We noticed last night the fridge didn’t seem as cool as it usually is. This morning, there was no doubt about it. The fridge isn’t cold. The freezer seems to be working fine. Everything is frozen in it, there’s no frost on the walls, etc…
I know the fridge pulls its’ cold air from the freezer. If I’m right, the thing between the fridge/freezer is a diffuser? Is that likely the problem? Could something just be frozen/stuck?
Hi.
First check if the evaporator fan is running.
Then open the freezer door and check if the air is going through the air damper into the refrigerator (up at the top).
If the air blows with the door open and doesn’t with door closed - there is the defrost system problem.
Open the rear panel in the freezer and check if the evaporator coils are blocked with snow.
There are 3 things in the defrost system: defrost timer, defrost thermostat and defrost heater.
Locate in the refrigerator top right, rear the defrost timer’s shaft.
Use the flat screw driver to slowly turn it CW until the fridge stops.
In 5 minutes check if the defrost heater is on.
If it is - replace the timer 68233-2
If not- check the thermostat and heater for continuity.
The thermostat must be ice cold when tested.
The thermostat and heater asm AP6010103
