We have a Maytag Performa belt-driven washer model LAT25200AEE that worked normally up until recently. The washer fills and agitates properly,; the pump works normally to drain the machine, and the motor seems to work properly. However, the basket does not spin when the washer goes into the spin cycle. A squealing sound develops and there is a smell like burning rubber. I assume that the smell is due to the drive belt slipping on the non-moving pulley as the motor responds to the call to go into the spin cycle.
Does anyone have a diagnosis of the problem? Many thanks for your interest.
