Have Replaced already since new;
Main Control Panel (2023), Locking mechanism (2022),Damper Assembly, Tub Suspension (2024), Numeous LED Light assemblies (one almost every time in unit). Also unit has begun to rust significantly on top around lid assembly.
Does a average of 2-3 loads a week.
Now Getting a OFB Error. Whether full or empty with clothes. I have done numerous tests and went all the way to empty testing. OFB error always displays at the 22 minute remaining mark. Unit seems to agitate still but one can hear a clicking noise during agitation. Agitator Cap likes to pop off on occation as well.
I believe this points to Maytag Washing Machine Shift Actuator W10754448.
Is there anything else I should replace to bring unit back to standards while I am in the Washing machine? Is the my diagnose correct?
How hard of a job is this washer repair as the condition and problems we have had with this unit since new is having me lean towards scrapping it.
OFB Off-Balance codes can be a few different things, especially if the unit does not seem to actually be going off-balance.
This direct-drive model uses a clutch and slider instead of the splutch and shift actuator setup on the belt-drive units. The clutch, slider, and slider spring could be causing you some issues. Or the gearcase isn’t shifting over to allow proper agitation to distribute the clothes. The stator could be wearing out and the control board is reading that as OFB. Improper fill amount because of the valve assembly or even suds can cause the unit to not be allowing enough water in so that it can float and redistribute the clothes. And then the main control could also be interpreting something incorrectly and throwing the code.
The unit sits level on a utility room vinyl floor, When it spins the Agitatator sits center as well and really does not go out of center (especially when empty) which is a surprise since typically the OFB Error meant (in the past) that things were off center.
Maybe taking the approach (actual Error code being displayed is caused by approach would be good direction);
What typically “triggers” the actual OFB error could be a direction to take…I would assume a connection of sorts must be made to trigger the main board to display the OFB error. Looks like Clutch Actuator is probably the main culprit…unless something is damaged which could be the Slider and Spring kit looking at design…then again…not something I do everyday.
I threw on the Slider and Spring Kit as a possible.
The Water levels by the point of the error in the cycle (22 min mark always - just before it kicks things in high spin) is toward the end of cycle (maybe rinse but it is always at the point it goes into high speed spin dry)…I see no suds ever at that timing. Also the drum when empty is bone dry.
Probably best approach is disassemble and see if there is any Carnage. If its the stator it probably will go to the scrap yard as the wife has been pushing for a front loader and the last one we had lasted us 10 years and came with the house (2 years old) (Sold it still running but the dryer was a samsung and it was always blowing heater elements…about one every 18 months) before this set in question.
