The upper oven on my 3-year-old Maytag Gemini electric oven will preheat and then emits 2 beeps and shuts off shortly after correct temperature has been reached. Sometimes I can turn it back on and it cooks for about 15 minutes, then shuts off again and I cannot turn it back on at all. It also is taking longer to cook things–not sure it is reaching full temperature.
Bottom oven is fine.
This all began after I cleaned the oven.
I thought Maytag was supposed to be such a reliable product!

Did it show any error codes on the display? What is the complete model number and the serial number of your range? You can find them behind the control panel on the right side.
Gene.
I have the same issue with our Maytag Gemini double oven. It’s model number is MER6755AAS. It does not display any codes. It will preheat and then as soon as it does, it will beep twice and shut off. Both ovens were working fine and then we used the self cleaning and now the top one does this, but the bottom one still works fine.
I’ve procrastinated on this pretty badly and it’s probably been like this for well over a year, but the wife wants this fixed NOW!
I’ve read that it could be the board or a sensor. Any help to narrow down the cause would be awesome.
Thanks!
Matt
Hi Matt,
Most likely the problem is a bad control board. You have to order the overlay because it’s glued on.

Thanks so much Gene!
You are welcome Matt. Keep us posted.

UPDATE 12/12/12 <–had to do this just cause it looks cool.
OK, so I FINALLY got around to ordering this board and overlay a month or so ago. Just put it in tonight and it preheated and 5 minutes later it shut off again Must have been the temperature sensor. Guess I’m trying that next. I’ll let you know if that works. Anyone have a part number for me??
Thanks!
Did it preheat to a set temperature?
What was shown on the display when it did shut off?
Gene.
Yes it did preheat to 425. It stayed on for about 5 minutes. I wasn’t watching to see what it said at the exact second it beeped and shut off. It was just the temp and time like always.
Thanks!
When the oven is off, the display shows the time only. If it was the temperature shown too then why you believe it shut off? I’m confused.
Normally the heating element in the oven should cycle on & off in order to maintain the set temperature. So, for the heating element to be off after the preheat was done is pretty normal.
I would like you to explain more detailed what is wrong.
Gene.
I pushed the bake button for the upper oven, then set it to 425. The temperature quickly rose to 425. The whole time the oven was preheating and for about 5 minutes after it had preheated, the oven display showed the time and the temp the oven was set at. After it preheated to 425, it beeped once to tell me it was preheated. For 5 minutes after it preheated it was fine, still showed 425 and the time. After 5 minutes, it beeped twice and shut itself off.
Thanks!
This is very strange. Looks like the new control board is defective. Check all wires and connections and get in touch with the company where you ordered it from. It should be exchanged under the part warranty.
