I would like some help determining what is wrong with this dryer. Last week it began to make some high pitched noises while running on a regular heat setting. My wife said she noticed she had to press the start button longer to get it to start.
I opened the back panel and cleaned some dust. I noticed a white wire was loose on the motor switch (most likely a SWITCH, MOTOR Part Number: AP3988708 made by MAYTAG ) I tighten the wires clip and it appeared to hold better. I inspected the belt and idler assembly. I ran the unit several times w/o heat and it worked but still made some noise. I could not identify the source of the noise. The start button did require an extra effort to turn the drum each time i started the unit.
This morning it will no longer start, I just hear buzzing sound (not the end of cycle buzz).
Is this the switch or motor? Thoughts?
Sounds like the motor has gone bad.

Thanks Gene,
Is there a down loadable manual for removing the motor?
Should I replace anything else while I’m in there of just leave things alone.
Here is the Service manual.
While you’ll take the dryer apart it is a good idea to check the tumbler bearings (#8 on the diagram), drum support rollers, belt and idler pulley.
