I have a Maytag refrigerator (MSD2542VEB00) that is around 17 years old. I bought the unit around 2008. Obviously, things get worn out and break due to usage and wear and tear.

On the freezer door, the black seal that goes around the inside of the door that is cracked and worn out in some spots.

I had the condenser fan and freezer drain plug replaced. I was told by the repair guy that the freezer door seal is not something that can be easily replaced because the black seal connects to the liner. Somehow the liner is involved or is connected to the seal.

I don’t know if the guy is right or wrong. Basically, he was saying that it is possible to replace it but it is not worth doing due to the age of the unit. It sounds more risky than worth the reward.

While the freezer door seal is difficult to replace, it is better than replacing a refrigerator for it. The door seal will go behind the liner and can be difficult to get in place but is possible.

Well, certainly replacing the seal cost less if done right by someone who has done it before and has experience in it. I don’t have neither of it so I don’t want to attempt it.
