Maytag Dryer, MDE9700AYW, Electric, No Heat; Element, or Sensor? Plus Bonus Questions

Brand: Maytag (The one Year Samsung had it.)
Model Number: MDE9700AYW
Main Symptom: Everything but heat when dryer is turned on.
What happens & when: The drum rotates just fine, it acts like a normal cycle (I only run a short cycle, don’t want to cause more harm), and on average, I take off the face of it just to vacuum out any possible lint/dust/stray things at least once a year. Keeping it clean prevents fires.

That said, however, I need to replace the felt ring seal because the old one is worn. It gets lintier each year. This is…in addition to the fact that ol’ Hoss isn’t heating up.

But the main question is, since it’s an old dryer (and I’m fond of it), could the matter be the whole element, or just a sensor? Also, do I just buy the element itself, or do I get the “whole can” (The metal casing with sensors and the actual element inside)?

The bonus question is regarding the felt ring; what is the best one with the right fit for this same model? Do they normally come with glue? And is there a good tutorial video that I can be directed to for the felt ring, please? I’m not looking forward to taking out the drum…

–And thank you, to any who would consider offering advice on this matter; your time and input are very appreciated.

Error Code (if any): No codes, yet; I’m just a DIY-er, so I don’t know how to make the dryer give me codes. Yet.
Parts or tests already tried: This is a new development; thought I’d ask advice, first.
Photos / video link: I don’t have that at this time.

For this unit to replace the felt seal the manufacturer only offers it as part of the drum assembly. The element would need to be checked to determine if the element alone is the issue or if it could be a sensor which would also need to be checked.

Hi, Brad I…thanks for reaching out.

So are you telling me that if I want the felt band that goes to this unit’s drum, I have to purchase the entire drum assembly? Ouch

Is it possible to get a generic aftermarket version and replace it or glue it on?

Also, how would I be able to check if it’s a matter of a sensor or if it’s the whole element? I’m assuming a continuity check at the connection points of each sensor/the element, out-of-circuit (or powered off/dryer unplugged)?

Thanks again for the reply.

Yes, the felt seal does come with the drum. I am not aware of a replacement for this seal. Yes, a continuity check of the components with the power off.
