When the dryer is running the drum slides forward and the clothes get black marks on them. I have a maytag electric dryer model MED5700TQ0. Whne I took apart the dryer I found that the rear drum lower left roller broke. The rubber on the outside came off. Replaced both rear rollers, belt, and rear seal. Replaced bearing ring front support. Same problem. The drum slides front to back. The only thing left is the front baring and seal. I matched it up to a new one and it looks the same. It seems like nothing is keeping the drum from moving forward. Running out of options… Please help!
This is a whirlpool made Maytag. In section one of you model breakdown, and the number is 31. That is the idler pully. Does yours look like that?? I have seen them basically disintergrate to just the shell. It should have the round wheel on it. That is the only thing I could think of. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
Thanks for the quick response. I have replaced the idler pulley. The drum support roller disintergrated which caused this whole problem.
I ordered the dryer repair kit which comes with a new idler pulley, two drum support rollers, and a new belt. The rear seal was ripped due to the drum support roller disintergrating. So that was also replaced.
When everything was put back together the drum moves forward so the front bearing ring slides around the front bearing seal. When this happens in creates a gap in the back which allowed clothes to get stuck in the back between the drum and the cabinet. I ordered and replaced the two front bearing rings. That didn’t help. I have a new front seal felt but it looks exactly like the old one so I didn’t install it.
Is the drum suppose to move forward so the front bearing ring slides around the front bearing seal? I wouldn’t think its suppose to do that. Right now I slide the front bearing seal felt a little so the clips were not lined up. This creates the felt to be thicker which doesnt allow the drum to move forward.
The drum does move a little, but after everything you did, everything should be fine. Since you alreadt have the felt seal for the front, I would install it. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
