Maytag Dishwasher Won't Start

I have a Maytag Dishwasher, purchased in December '09, and has worked fine. However, yesterday I tried to use it, and it won’t start. It seems to latch OK. The “Light” cycle light will light up when pushed, and the “Sanitize” light will blink when pushed, but no other buttons show any activity.
Model # MDBH979AWW3
Serial # FY4703035
Type 577-0
Got any ideas? Thanks, JD

Most likely the problem is a bad control panel but there is a small chance for the control board to be bad as well.

If you need the correct part number for the control panel, post the color of it.

Hi Gene,
Thanks a bunch for the reply. I’ve been gone for awhile, but now it’s time to fix this dishwasher. I’ve got a white maytag. I’d like to start by replacing the control panel. Can you point me in the right direction for info on parts and procedure for replacement, please?
Thanks,
JD

Hi JD,

The white control panel AP5985061

In order to remove it you have to remove the inner door panel first by removing the Torx screws along the sides and top of the inner door panel.

Remove the PC board housing cover and disconnect the membrane switch from the PC board.

Remove the PC board.

Lift out the latch assembly.

Remove the 4 screws securing the control panel to the outer door.
