we have a maytag bravos washing machine type 580. kept showing a code ul which is unleveled. we had a hard time making it level to finish loads. took it to repair store and was told bearings are out. that they cannot just replace bearings, have to replace inner and outer tubs. we are in shock. to fix it cost almost what it did to buy it. we are wondering if this is true-you have to replace tubs? you can’t replace just bearings?

I don’t know that there are tub bearings on this model that would cause your problem.
First check the balance ring. If it is okay I would get a second opinion, make sure you find someone who knows this particular model. It is a rather unusual one, and you need someone experienced on them to really check it out.
If you cannot get it fixed at a reasonable price, and unless it is something simple you won’t be able to, take a look at the basic top loader at your big box appliance store. Discounts are high right now and you can get a good replacement in the $275 to $350 range in our area.
