Maytag Bravo X clicking, then eventually starts to spin

Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MVWX700XL2
Main Symptom: Clicking then eventually spins

Hi all, having an issue with our MVWX700XL2 washing machine. Over the past 1+ year, when starting and periodically during a wash, the unit will start clicking. It’s like it’s trying to kick on the spin then after so many times it will eventually catch and spin. Whatever, it’s still been working and completing loads all this time.

However over the past week it’s gotten worse, it will continually click and never catch and spin the drum… after so long it will eventually give up and the washer turns off. Then we go to start it again and it will click for a while and catch and start spinning and do the complete wash as usual.

Any idea what this is? It’s like a relay clicking but not fully engaging the drum to spin.

Here is a short video:

Thanks all!

At the end of the video it made another sound, does it seem like it engages the agitator or agitates the tub instead of spinning? Does it agitate strongly in Wash?

The first thing I’d check is the connections at the motor, capacitor, and shifter underneath the washer to make sure they are fully seated, as well as checking the wiring for any apparent damage or pinching.

If you can I would also check for error codes. I’m attaching the tech sheet to help with that.

Yes the agitator seems fine and the tub is fine too… it seems like it’s whatever is trying to engage the tub. Like a relay keep clicking but the tub circuit doesn’t catch until it finally does, then it takes off like normal

Try running the manual load test in the tech sheet and see if it’ll spin there without any problems. Make sure you read that test thoroughly because you do have to manually lock the lid before attempting the spin test. Let me know how it does.
