Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MAV5000AWW
Main Symptom: does not agitate, but does spin
What happens & when: Agitator stopped working. I could hear a clicking sound when it was trying to move. I was able to drain and spin to empty the tub.

Error Code (if any):
Parts or tests already tried: I took off the agitator and it looks to be in good condition where it attaches to the main shaft. No wear marks on the rib. I cannot seem to take part the 2 pieces of the agitator to see if there is a broken cog assembly inside.

I then tipped over the machine, removed the belt which is in perfect condition as it was replaced a year ago. I moved the center shaft in counter clockwise direction and could see the shaft on the inside of the tub moving. The tub and shaft move in unison, IE: the shaft did not move independently of the tub.

What should I look at next? What would cause the clicking sound? I

Is the top half of the agitator able to rotate clockwise and counter-clockwise without catching? If it can, the issue is going to lie with the agitator itself. WP22004042 Agitator Assembly | Genuine Whirlpool OEM In Stock

The agitator movs freely counter clockwise. It does not move in the clockwise direction. It does not seem to be the agitator itself.

what would make the clicking sound?

The only other place that could cause that noise during agitation and not cause it during a spin would be the transmission itself. Unfortunately, it looks like the transmission has been discontinued by the manufacturer. 35-6615 Ht Trans S | Genuine Whirlpool OEM In Stock
