OE motor is very pricey compared to generic aftermarket. What are the accepted rules for matching amps and rpm?
Original motor 3/4 hp, 1140rpm, and 2.6 amps.
Aftermarket that hvac supplier says is correct is 3/4 hp, 1075 rpm, and 4.7 amps.
The amps seems very high and rpms iffy. I have heard that hp is all that matters, and that if new item amps are higher than oe it’s ok, just not lower.
What are the guidelines for amps and rpm??
usually you hear plus or minus 10 percent. the stronger amp draw wouldn’t bother me. 1075 rpm is common on Rheem models. this is where it throws the heat off the condenser so be sure your outside unit coils are washed clean with your garden hose (fuse or breaker off first). if it is a capacitor motor get the matching capacitor with it. careful not to bend the fan coming off the shaft. I always try to oil and rotate it on the shaft before trying to pull it. good luck
Thanks. Amp rating is almost double the original, way past 10%. Can you please explain why that wouldn’t bother you?
