It appears that the door tension assembly consist of a cable & eyelet on each side, each attached to a set of springs (two springs) in between. This assembly (one of the cable eyelets has snapped on my dishwasher) appears to run left to right just inside the lower panel.
Is this correct as to the configuration?

Yes, you’re correct, Remeber to order both cables, and replace both at the same time. Depending on your installation or dexterity, it’s easiest to install the cables on the door hinge attachment point, with the door up and locked closed, infact the whole repair including the spring installation is better with the door closed. Be careful, you may want to use needle nose pliers when installing the springs,
