Lower agitator not turning

Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: ETW4400WQ0
Main Symptom: Leaking transmission fluid & motor mount siezed on trans shaft
What happens & when: I accidentally pulled up the transmission shaft seal in an attempt to remove a flex coupler seized on the trans-shaft. All the transmission fluid leaked out. Need to know how to remove coupler from shaft and how to refill transmission fluid and replace shaft seal. Maybe too expensive?

Update: Successfully removed seized flex coupler (photo attached)

. Trans shaft seal looks OK. Will need to reinstall trans shaft and refill crankcase oil.

Error Code (if any):
Parts or tests already tried: Agitator Replacement kit, water pump, motor flex coupler.

Removing the flex coupler can be a messy process. However, this video can be used as a reference for disassembling the transmission for the oil seal and transmission oil replacement. The video is a part of the information page for the oil seal on the coupler, and the second link can be used to view the part information page for the transmission oil.

Hi William,

I scrapped it.

The lower frame was well rusted. and I feared I’d damaged the transmission further by wrenching out the transmission shaft & seal while attempting to remove the seized flex-coupler. . . just too many what ifs with a replacement transmission versus a $600 Hotpoint toploader I have in my home now.

It’s a load off my mind, no washing machine pun intended lol

Thank you for your support. I never imagined I would get this far into this repair. It’s been an education.

Best Regards,

John
