The “jet engine” sound during the high-speed spin cycle on this model is almost always caused by a failed tub bearing. As the bearing wears out, it becomes very loud during the final spin, and the noise will continue to get worse over time.

Before replacing any parts, here’s a quick test you can do:

  1. Run a Drain & Spin cycle

    • Start a Drain & Spin cycle with the washer empty.

    • As the basket speeds up, listen carefully.

    • A bad tub bearing will produce a loud roaring or growling noise that gets louder as the spin speed increases.

  2. Spin the basket by hand

    • Unplug the washer.

    • Open the lid and spin the wash basket by hand.

    • A healthy bearing will allow the basket to spin smoothly and quietly.

    • If you hear a rumbling, grinding, or rough feeling while turning the basket, the bearing has likely failed.

  3. Check for basket movement

    • Grab the stainless basket near the top and try lifting it up and down.

    • There should be very little movement.

    • Excessive play is another indication the bearing has worn out.

Also, take a look underneath the washer. If you see rusty streaks, oily residue, or water marks around the gearcase, the tub seal has likely failed, allowing water into the bearing. Once that happens, the bearing and gearcase are one assembly ( Whirlpool W11393685 Washer Transmission | Genuine OEM Part ) and need to be replaced together.
