For model WM0642HW, if you’re going to go through the time, effort, and hassle of tearing the machine down to replace one tub bearing, it’s highly recommended to replace both bearings and the tub seal at the same time.
The majority of the labor involved is getting the washer completely disassembled to access the bearings. Once you’re already in there, the additional cost of replacing the second bearing and seal is relatively small compared to the work required to get back to that point later.
The last thing you want is to reassemble the washer, get it back in service, and then discover a short time later that the other bearing is starting to fail. Likewise, if the seal is worn or damaged, it can allow water to reach the new bearings and significantly shorten their lifespan.
Replacing both bearings and the seal while the washer is apart helps ensure a long-lasting repair and reduces the chances of having to tear the machine down a second time. It’s a classic case of “doing it once and doing it right.”
