Light's on, but it's not running

I came home yesterday to a room temperature fridge and a cool freezer. I was only able to save the frozen cookie dough…

My 3 year old Frigidaire stopped running. I checked the outlet, cleaned the condenser (didn’t know that was necessary, but it was nasty), and listened for the compressor. The compressor is silent. This problem may have started the day before yesterday, because I noticed the icecream was a little soft. I initially thought the freezer door had been left ajar, but that was not the case. We didn’t notice any hot or electrical smell in the kitchen; there was no rattling or bumping noise. It just died. Any fast/inexpensive solutions? What should I expect a repairman to say/charge? Please help.

Sounds like your start device is out. You can get a universal 3 in 1, which is start/relay/capacitor and try that. Are both of the fans running?

No, nothing but the lamp is operational. Just a heavily insulated cabinet at this point. Thanks for the tip.

Do you have a model#. It may be stuck in defrost, but need to see if your model has a timer. Please post model#

I’ll have to check when I get home tonight. If it is in defrost mode, wouldn’t it be operational once thawed?

It would unless the timer has stalled in defrost mode. If stalled you will have the exact problems you are describing.

Turns out it was none of the above: it was a four-year-old child who should know better than to touch the refrigerator’s temperature control knob. My little boy turned off the refrigerator–it wasn’t broken afterall! We had a discussion about pushing buttons and turning knobs he wasn’t supposed to. Thank you all for your help.

LoL  Too Funny

lol kids are known to do all kinds of strange things. :stuck_out_tongue: Glad it something easily correctible. Just think only 14 more years…
