When I turn any of the knobs to the “Light” position, there is no clicking noise and, although the gas is coming through, there is no spark to actually light up the fire. I’ve had to use matches / a lighter in order to get the fire going. I’m trying to fix it, but I’m not sure what the problem is.
Kwan,
You most likely have a bad spark module, or broken wire.
I can’t verify that, or assist you with a part number, due to an improper model number. Could you get us a proper model number off the production plate of the unit, so we can better assist you.
Thanks,
Sorry, the correct model number is: CGS980SEM1SS
Kwan,
Here are some part numbers you may need, once you start your checks,
Once you get the range out and the cooktop up, to access the wiring and module, you’ll be fine, and have it figured out in no time.
Good Luck,
Hi how can I get access to the spark module on the G.E. Cafe stove model# CGS980SEM1SS, is it on the top?
Thanks!

Kwan,
There are two possible locations
One location is in the back of the unit about 1/2 way down from the top on the right side.
If the spark module is under the top, you will need to remove the grates, drip pans and burner caps, remove the two screws that hold the base to the cook top, and carefully lift the burner base away from the cooktop and disconnect the igniter wire. You can then lift the top off the range , using a putty knife or flat bladed tool to press in on the spring clips to release it.
You may find it a bit easier if you label all the caps , burners and wires as you remove them, so you can easily re install all the components in the proper location.
Good Luck,
