New to forum. Thanks for any help. Replaced lid switch (p/n8318084). Brother suggested I also replace plug from wiring harness which showed some signs of distress. Havent had any luck replacing just plug and terminals (which I already cut off) . Been told have to buy entire wiring harness, dont want to spend $80. I see on your site that you have a wiring harness parts diagram. I am looking at 21,22 and 10,11 as possible candidates, but some have no pictures. Could someone tell me exactly what I need or, if these dont work are there some other terminals that might work with the lid switch. i really dont want to bypass the lid switch as my other brother is challenged who will be using this mostly and we cant take the chance of an accident. Many thanks in advance.
All these parts are just plugs and receptacles without terminals. I would connect the wires using a wire nuts. Make sure you connected the same color wires.

Thanks Gene for the reply. Sorry, bear with me, I will be back in town with the switch tonight and can check it tomorrow. I really hope to be able to solve this problem without bypassing lid switch due to danger. I cant remember from memory what wires there are in the switch. I thought it was just a plug. Do you know what kind of plug you call that in the switch that i could find terminals for the harness wire that would work?
I suppose solder and shrink wrap could work.
Any suggestions?
The main reason for those plugs is to make lid switch replacement easier. You can eliminate the plugs and reconnect the wires any way is more comfortable for you. Just match the wire colors.

Why do repair men like to use wire nuts. These make some of the worse connections out there and are not safe. Why do you not tell them to at least use a crip or something especially in a area that has higher humidity from the water that is near by. I personally would at least use a soldering gun and soldering two connections together.
I have the same problem as the original poster. I hope someone still will answer on this old thread.
I have the new lid switch, and I have to have the connector since mine burnt up when the lid switch shorted out. There is no way to simply “use a wire nut”. The lid switch has 3 flat pins and it’s unclear on the wiring diagram which part is required.

the plug I need to replace looks most like #22 in the pic, but the actual plugs on the end don’t look quite right. The ends of my plug look more like the ends of the connector on #21 - beveled edges with slots for the flat pins. I’m pretty sure #21 is not right and I’m concerned about ordering #22 because of the squarish plugs on it that don’t look right.
To be more specific, the plug is “keyed” so that the far left plug is octagonal, and the other two are the same on the bottom, but squared off on the top. Each has a + opening in the middle for the flat pins inside the lid switch. I hope this is helpful (see my pics)
Any ideas? Is there an easy way to simply put individual tip on those wires rather than worrying about getting the wrong connector? The images you have are so crude and I don’t want to waste time and money on something that may or may not be right. . .

Iv’e tried to find these before to no avail. Ended up just crimping terminals on wire and covering with heat-shrink and plugging directly into pins in lid switch. Even the terminals are hard to find and I don’t remember where I got them. I do see a guy on e bay selling the lid switch with harness connector and 3 pins (all new), so you might want to try contacting him. Can’t post link here but just search on e bay for 8318084 and you’ll find it.

Reviving this thread from the dead…
While replacing the lid switch, I noticed that the terminal for the white (center) wire was misaligned within the connector identified as part #22 in this diagram:

Typically, there is a “secret” process used to be able to pull the metal terminal and attached wire from the plastic connector. This may be a special tool to retract spring tongs on the terminal or something like that.
What is the secret to removing these terminals from the lid switch connector so I can repair or replace it?

I wouldn’t rig it any other way b/c it would be VERY dangerous! If you search e bay for “8318084 Plug” you should find what you need… You have to buy the switch and plug together though (beats paying for a new $150 Harness or replacing the washer itself!!!) - Hope this helps you!
Dont use wire nuts unless you want to burn your house to the ground!!! Also, your home-owners insurance wont cover you either!
