Brand: LG
Model Number: WT4970CW
Main Symptom: makes noise but won’t start
What happens & when: A few days ago I pushed the power button and the washing machine made noise, sort of as if agitator wouldn’t move and sort of like running water. There was an IE error code. Since then I have…checked the water pressure; checked the water inlet filters; validated that the entire water inlet valve was electrically working but replaced it anyway in case of mechanical failure; inspected the control panel and to the best of my ability tested voltage; tried to reset; tried to utilize diagnostic function but not working. After the first error, since that time it is this: I push power and before even pushing start, the noise begins. I can rotate the settings dial and press the buttons for different settings, etc, but the noise continues and nothing else happens. Once this begins, the power button WILL NOT turn off the machine. The lights go off, but it still runs. I need to unplug it, and even wait a few seconds or it starts again as soon as I plug it back in. You can see all of this in the video.
I assume there is an electrical issue based on the power button symptoms, but I am not sure if there might be problems with the agitator and / or motor. I don’t know how to further diagnose the control board, or if I should just replace it and see what happens. The machine is 10 years old and while there were never any issues, it won’t make sense to spend hundreds of dollars to repair it.
Thank you for any help you can offer.
