LG LFXS26973S lower ice maker doing weird stuff

Main Symptom:ice cube collection bin filling up with water and freezing
What happens & when: The ice machine itself seems to be functioning correctly. It fills up with water, freezes and twists/dumps ice into collection bin below. But what happens is it looks like extra water gets dumped into collection bin and freezes so all the ice cubes are frozen together. Looks like peanut brittle lol. I did notice sometimes the ice cube freezing tray itself looks like it was overfilled and doesn’t dump correctly as the cubes are kind of connected around the top. Its not like the ice cubes are melting and re-freezing either, the cubes look normal just frozen together. Took the ice maker out and inspected it and the tray isn’t broken or anything where water might be dripping down into the collector bin. Any ideas?

Based on what you’ve described, I would suspect the water inlet valve ( LG MJX41869202 Refrigerator Water Inlet Valve | Genuine OEM Part ) or ( LG AJU73432806 Bottom-Mount Refrigerator Refrigerator Water Inlet Valve Assembly | Genuine OEM Part ) is leaking internally or closing too slowly.

A simple way to verify this is:

  1. Remove the water line from the outlet of the water inlet valve that feeds the ice maker.

  2. With the refrigerator powered on, watch for any water dripping from the valve when it is not being energized. There should be no leakage at all.

  3. Then command the ice maker through a harvest cycle (or activate the valve in test mode if available) and watch the valve open and close. When power is removed, the water flow should stop immediately. If it continues to drip or slowly tapers off, the inlet valve is not sealing properly and should be replaced. A leaking valve can overfill the ice maker or cause water to freeze in the fill tube.

Also, for your LG LFXS26973S with ice maker AEQ73110217, there is no adjustment for ice cube size. Unlike some older LG ice makers, this model does not have a cube size selector. If the cubes are consistently too large or too small, the cause is typically a water supply issue, a restricted filter, low water pressure, or a water inlet valve that is not operating correctly—not an adjustment setting.
