LG Front Loader tapping & banging during Rinse/Spin

Brand:LG
Model Number:WM3470 HWA
Main Symptom:tapping & banging noise
What happens & when: rinse/Spin

Error Code (if any):none
Parts or tests already tried:spider, bearing, 4 shocks, rotor
Photos / video link: unable to send my video MOV file

I can possibly email my video

since you’ve already replaced the spider arm, bearings, all four shock absorbers, and the rotor, I would concentrate on a few other areas before replacing any more parts.

A tapping or banging noise during rinse and spin usually points to something moving or making contact as the tub speeds up, especially if the noise gets louder with higher spin speeds.

Here’s what I would check next:

1. Check the tub counterweights. Unplug the washer and remove the top panel. Inspect the concrete counterweights and their mounting bolts. A loose or cracked counterweight can cause a heavy knocking or banging sound as the tub moves.

2. Inspect the suspension springs. Check the springs supporting the outer tub. Make sure they’re seated correctly and that their mounting points aren’t worn or damaged. Also check that the new shocks are securely attached at both ends.

3. Check the rotor and stator mounting. Since you’ve replaced the rotor, verify that its center bolt is tight and that the rotor isn’t contacting the stator. Inspect the stator mounting bolts as well. A loose component can produce a rhythmic tapping noise that increases with drum speed.

4. Check the inner basket for movement. With the washer unplugged and empty, open the door and lift upward on the stainless-steel basket at the front. There should be very little independent movement between the basket and outer tub. Also rotate the basket slowly by hand and listen for tapping or scraping.

5. Inspect the drain pump and hoses. Since the noise occurs during rinse and spin, check whether it happens while the drain pump is operating. A foreign object in the pump can make a repetitive tapping or rattling sound.

Try this quick test

Run an empty Rinse + Spin cycle and listen for when the noise begins.

  • Noise during draining, before the drum spins: Check the drain pump.
  • Noise at slow drum speeds: Check the rotor, stator, and anything contacting the rotating basket.
  • Banging as the drum accelerates: Check the counterweights, suspension springs, and shock mounting points.
  • Rhythmic tapping that gets faster with drum speed: Look for a rotating component rubbing or striking something.

A couple of questions:

  1. Does the tapping or banging happen with an empty drum, or only when clothes are inside?
  2. Is it a heavy banging sound like the tub hitting the cabinet, or a lighter metallic tapping that gets faster as the drum spins?

Those two details will help narrow down whether we’re dealing with a suspension problem, a rotating component, or something contacting the tub. Since you’ve already replaced several major components, I wouldn’t recommend buying anything else until we identify where the noise is coming from.

I’d be happy to send a video but it doesn’t seem like I can get the correct format from an iPhone or android the dot MOV file is not acceptable so if there’s another site or email that I could send it to you could actually see what’s going on and hear it and then maybe make a better judgment call I have checked the counterweights.

So, what videos are authorized that we can’t take a video on your phone and send it I’m confused?
