We have an LG DLG2532W gas dryer that has trouble starting the drum turning. It makes a loud screeching noise but can’t get the drum going. The only way we’ve been able to get it started is by reaching in and turning the drum by hand. Once the drum starts turning it works OK. It has this problem even with relatively small loads. I’d thought that probably a belt was slipping, but the repairman we had look at the machine insists that it can’t be the belt since it’s a beltless machine and that it’s just getting old (7 years). I see a belt listed on the parts list though. I’ve also heard that a bad roller assembly could cause the problems were experiencing.

Any advice on what the problem could be? Both the belt and the roller assembly sound like good possibilities to me. Any way to tell which one is more likely?
Did you ever resolve your issue with this dryer. Mine is doing the exact same thing. I took apart the Dryer to inspect the motor, belt and drum. I think it is possible the motor has some issues. It sounds like it wants to start up, but instead it just make a load buzzing noise. If we bias the clothes to the right side of the dryer it seems to help the dryer get started. Or if we take clothes out and reduce the size of the load, then the dryer works. I wonder if there is an electrical load sensor which may have a role in the issue. Any input on your solution would be appreciated. -Art
Hi.
Most likely you have a bad motor. Please provide a complete model number of the dryer.
Simon.
Manuf: LG
Model #DLG0332W
Motor: #4681EL1008A
I’m guessing the motor needs repair/replacement. I’ve ordered one on-line already (delivery date is 4 days, and costs including shipping were very good). Thanks for posting your assessment (I hope we both guessed correctly and that the new motor fixes the issue).

I replaced the motor a couple months ago and have not had any issues since. I will say that replacing the motor was not a simple job. Most of the difficulty is with knowing how to disassemble the dryer, disconnect the drive belt, etc. Took me a couple hours total time (which I think is pretty good for a DIY job).
Thank you for shearing with us.
