LG DLEC855W Dryer won't power up without hard reboot (cutting power)

Please make sure to click on General above and select the correct appliance type first.

Brand: LG
Model Number: DLEC855W
Main Symptom: Won’t turn on when power button is pressed.
What happens & when: After sitting overnight it won’t power on when the power button is pressed. Cutting power via the breaker or unplugging for 30 seconds (breaker is easier since less reaching) then restoring and it turns on. Operates normally once it’s powered up.

Error Code (if any): n/a

This could be a main control or user interface control failure. When the unit doesn’t power on, is there any DC voltage at the user interface control wires coming from the main control? Unfortunately, the manufacturer’s wiring diagram does not show what wires would be tested. Each wire would need to be tested to each wire.

Thanks. That confirms my suspicions.

I haven’t popped this thing open as of yet. Will be a few days before I have access to it again. Service manual I found isn’t terribly helpful… if I’m being kind.

My thinking is it’s likely main control. There’s no sign of life and as I understand it the main control is what actually delivers power to the UI control, the power button is basically like a PC where you’re essentially shorting to the common ground. That shouldn’t have a point of failure that could reset with a power disconnect.

I’m not sure if this is really a worthwhile repair on stacked units 12 years of age either.
