Our dryer gradually took longer to dry and now it is no longer heating.
I took the dryer apart and vacuumed out the accumulated lint, checked the filter channel, and the exhaust vent.
Installed a new Hi-Limit Thermal Fuse. Ran the machine for 5 minutes and it heated up. The machine stopped heating during the first load after the ‘repair’.
If the vent running from the wall to the outside of the home is clear, and the duct from the dryer to the wall is not pinched or clogged, there are a few checks that can be done. With the power supply cord unplugged, the top panel of the dryer can be removed to access the main control for some testing. There will be a yellow wire going to a red 3-terminal connector and a blue wire going to a white 3-terminal connector. With the wires disconnected from the main control, they can be tested for resistance with a meter to verify if the heating element is good. The heating element should measure around 20 Ohms of resistance. There will also be a 6-terminal connector that can be used to test the thermistor for resistance when measuring from the blue wire to the red wire while the wires are disconnected from the control. The thermistor should measure a resistance close to 10K Ohms. Do the resistances measure to what would be expected or do you find a different reading?
