LG Dishwasher problems HELP!

LG dishwasher giving us problems lately. Dishes on bottom rack coming out dirty and the top rack absolutely filthy. Dont think water getting to top rack at all. Have done all of the usual cleaning out spray arms etc. When you quickly open door their is just water kind of spilling out the bottom spray arm and not SPRAYING with good pressure. There is a part on the side with PN ap4437896 that seems clogged up with gunk as seen from outside with a flashlight. What does this part do and can it be the cause of our problems.

Can someone at least tell me what the part does? Maybe I can understand the problem if I know what the part does. Any pros here?:slight_smile:

This is from this website. I asked your online help but they told me to come here to see what the part does and if it can cause the problems we are seeing. I am willing to replace it even on the remote chance it helps.
