Is it common for LG bake elements to fuse to the chassis when they fail?

I am just a DIY person and I have replaced the bake element in two similar LG electric single oven models. In one case, the bake element fused to the chassis, and I was able to remove about 3/4 of the element. In the other oven, I was not able to remove the element even with the assistance of someone else. We managed to place the new element on top of the old one. That was back in Dec 2024 and it has been working fine since then.

It does not help that these are hidden elements. If they were accessible from inside the oven cavity, it would not be so bad.

I have not seen this happen with other brands as far as I am aware.

It is not common for a hidden bake element to fuse to the chassis as far as I am aware. Was it the element ribbon that fused, or was it the metal element housing that fused to the chassis?

WilliamM,

In one case it was the element ribbon that fused.

But in the other case, not sure. I had a friend who was poking around in there and did not provide much detail. All we know is that we could not remove it and the old part had to remain.

Gus

It sounds like the insulation around the ribbon may have weakened and over time, the ribbon started to warp as it heated and cooled. This could have possibly allowed it to eventually arc and weld.

Thanks WilliamM for sharing that and taking the time to respond to my post.
