Leaking Jenn-Air Water Valve

I recently attempted to replace the water valve on my Jenn-Air bottom freezer refrigerator. I used Water Valve Kit part number AP4009555. The instructions say to cut the water tubes back about one inch (to remove them from the old valve) and push them on to the new valve, which is some sort of compression fitting. I did that, but the connection leaked when the water supply was turned back on. Now, the tubes could not be removed without damaging the compression fittings that hold the tubes in place. My questions are as follows: 1) What went wrong? Why did the part leak?; 2) Can I buy new fittings to try again, or do I have to buy a whole new water valve; and 3) the tubes are now getting a little short. Is there any way of extending the tubes with some sort of coupling? Thank you for any assistance that you can offer.

Eric,

A couple of things to check,

You do have the correct part number for the fill valve, and as long as it hasn’t been damaged, you’ll be alright.

You can remove the tubes from the fill valve connections.Press in or down on the plastic ring surrounding the tubes, and pull the tube out(you may want to do this one at a time or label the tubes so you don’t mix them up).

Then check the insert end of the tube for a “straight” cut and any burrs inside or on the outside of the tube. Press the compression ring in, and insert the tube as far as possible, then release the ring, tug on the tube slightly, to insure that the ring has set and locked in place.

I think you’ll be fine from there on.

Well, not knowing that I could release the tubes by pressing on the rings, I damaged the rings to get the tubes out. Can I purchase just the rings, or do I need to buy another kit?

Eric,

That’s a shame, too bad.

Yes, you will need to purchase the fill valve kit again, the John Guess fittings for the fill valve are not available as a separate component.

Sorry about that,
