Brand: KitchenAid Model Number: kuds35fxss8 Main Symptom: water leaking onto the floor What happens & when: I took apart the door, and found this white plastic splash guard that looks bad - rubber gasket falling apart at the bottom when closed. AI told me that piece is discontinued, and suggested i order part number AP6030400 (W10850371). It was just a metal rod. Now I need some actual intelligence to help me determine what is leaking and what part to get.

Yeah, that rod replaced the vapor barrier in about 2015, the manufacturer no longer has a direct replacement for that barrier but you might try replacing the lower door seal WPW10497235. If I remember correctly they redesigned it so that vapor barrier isn’t necessary, the rod is just there to keep the hinges straight.
Thanks, Rory. I ordered the part you suggested. Any chance you could show me a picture of how that metal rod attaches to the hinges? I’m not seeing it. And I can just take the white plastic piece out? No longer needed? Thanks!
Yup, just take the splashguard out. There’s actually video attached to the parts page for that rod that goes over replacing the splash guard and installing the rod, just follow the link below.
