Leak near motor

Greetings

My aged whirlpool dishwasher is leaking.

After watching it run, it is dribbling from where the metal motor bolts to the plastic housing underneath. I’m not sure exactly where in the area, but I took the front covers off beneath the dishwasher and ran a load, and water started dripping in this area.

A little internet searching brought this site up:

http://www.************************.com/RepairHelp/How-To-Fix-A-Dishwasher/30-5-103259-/Whirlpool-Dishwasher-leaking-from-motor-area-DU840CWDB3

It suggested I replace possibly 4 parts.

Is there any good way to narrow the part I need down? Or perhaps they are all good to replace on a dishwasher of this age?

I wouldn’t mind ordering the sump, the seal and the seal assemblies, but when I start looking at $150 for the pump and motor itself, I start to question if it might be time to just replace the dishwasher. Of course, I don’t know what ‘modern’ dishwasher is comparable to this one.. so I’d have to become an educated shopper.

The dishwasher we have now is adequate; and our home is more of a starter home, so I don’t need anything super fancy as it would make the rest of our appliances appear cheap

Any guidance is appreciated!

NOTE: My link was altered when I post it - I apologize if I’ve broken any rules in posting this information. I would of course order the parts from this site instead of another to support it for helping me!

Most likely the leak is from the bad shaft seal. You need to replace the impeller kit AP6997612

Here are the breakdown diagrams and Pump and Motor parts for Whirlpool DU840CWDB3 - AppliancePartsPros.com

Post the results.

Hi Simon

Is there anything else I should replace while I’m in there?

Hi.

That should be OK.

Simon.

The parts have arrived.

I am, however, unclear based on the diagram as to how I should proceed with replacing them.

I have the front panels off the lower part of the dishwasher, can I reach through the opening and do all the work? Or, should I unhook the dishwasher and pull the entire unit out of the kitchen cabinet?

Do I need to take anything apart inside the dishwasher, like removing the impeller?
