Leak in fridge

Whirlpool freezer-on-top model is leaking water from top of fridge compartment. My understanding is this is probably a clogged drain pipe causing water to back up and spill into fridge, also causing odor. How do you get to drain pipe and how do you unclog?

It is a clogged drain pastic drain pipe, I disconnected the appliance, opened the fzr door, inside the fzr there’s a plastic plate that cover the bottom of the fzr, it has 2 scews. Remove the scews and take tha plate out. Once you’ve done that theirs one more plate to remove, this plate is connected to the rear wall of the frz, it has 3 scews and a ground wire remove the cover and you will see something that looks like a radiator, then you will see the drain hole, it’s probaly clogged or just frozen, poor warm soapy water down the drain until it start to drip onto the drip pan at rear of applaince. this should fix your problem.
PS: you should also lower the frz temp down to prevent it from freezing your drain pipe.

Thank you papomasan, this really made it easy to fix my problem!

this was always the thing with this fridge. I would use a heat sink from the element and put it in the hole cheap fix for big problem. and I have never found the drain pugged always iced up, just derfrost it and wrap a piece of aluminum wire around defrost element and put it in the hole done never agian wil you get water in fridge section.

Canhack… that sounds exactly what I need to do. I have the same water problem. Can you (or anyone else) tell me how to fix that? I am NOT good at fixing appliances but would appreciate a step by step instruction on how to run a heat wire down the drain pipe to fix the problem. I don’t know how to do what you described.
Thanks!

anyone else know how to describe this process?
