Pictures 1 and 2 are of my dryer motor that you sent me. Pictures 3 and 4 are two possible wirings that you sent me. I have wired black, yellow and red in accordance with the diagrams. I have two blacks and two yellows which does not correspond to your diagrams, but I am making the assumption that this should be done - if not you can correct me.

I wired up the first time using the first diagram (picture 3.) I have a gray wire vs. a white wire and a baby blue vs dark blue wire as you can see from picture 2 - I installed the gray on the terminal behind the row and the baby blue on to terminal 1. Nothing happened.

I wired up the gray wire with a jumper to terminal 1 and took off the baby blue wire as in diagram 2. Again nothing happened.

I removed the gray wire from the terminal behind the row and hooked the baby blue and gray wire together on terminal one. the breakers tripped and I blew the fuse on the dryer with this arrangement.

I have since replaced the fuse. I have had the dryer door switch wired up in each scenario above so this apparently is not the problem.

I need to know what to do from here to make the dryer motor work.

Have you checked both thermal fuses for continuity? If either fuse is open, the motor will not start at all. It’s a good idea to verify both fuses before concluding that the replacement motor is defective.

Also, what was the original symptom, and what diagnostic tests were performed before the motor was replaced?

Regarding the replacement motor, the older design with separate individual terminals is no longer used. The replacement motor is built like the newer standard motors, so the wiring must be connected correctly:

  • Gray wire → Overload protector

  • Blue harness wire → Terminal 1

  • Double black wire → Terminal 2 (opposite end)

  • Red wire → Terminal 5

  • Double yellow wire → Terminal 6

If the motor is wired exactly as listed above and still does not run, there is likely another issue.
