Brand: Kitchenaid Model Number: KEBS107SWH00 Main Symptom: blows breaker What happens & when: intermittently, when the oven is off
My main question is whether it’s worth figuring out. This oven has never been awesome, the convection feature broke several years ago (and parts are not available to fix it), so maybe it’s just done?
The symptom is random shorting, resulting in a blown breaker. This happens when the oven is off. In between shorts, the oven works fine. Sometimes it shorts immediately. Sometimes it will go a week.
The outside blower motor is 12 ohms instead of the spec (180-240), which seems bad, but not blow-the-breaker bad.
Everything else seems to check out: 30 or 40 ohms for all the elements, 1090 for the sensor, transformer is 24.
So I could replace the blower motor? I guess? It doesn’t seem smart to start swapping parts without really knowing the problem.
It sounds like there’s more going on here than just a faulty blower motor. While the motor reading is definitely off-spec, it likely wouldn’t be enough on its own to trip the breaker—especially when the oven is off.
Without a visual inspection of the internal components for signs of shorting, the main control board becomes a strong suspect. Voltage typically routes through the control before reaching most other components, aside from the user interface transformer. If the control board shows signs of damage or a short, that could explain the intermittent breaker trips.
Unfortunately, it looks like the manufacturer has discontinued the main control for this model, as seen in this link. As for whether it’s worth figuring out—that’s a tough call. Personally, I’d inspect the unit to try and pinpoint where the failure is coming from and see if it’s repairable before deciding to replace it. Thanks, makes sense. I took the board out and looked pretty hard at it for any components that seemed to have been hot – scorching, blown capacitors, melted insulation, etc, but didn’t find anything. It looks brand new. The wiring also all looks brand new, end to end. One thing I can do is hook it back up and look at the error codes; I didn’t realize this thing had error codes before I disconnected it.
