Hello all. Hoping someone can help me troubleshoot an issue. I have a KitchenAid KUDS01FLSS6 dishwasher from 2005 that recently stopped working. There is power to the unit and control panel (the lights on the latter all work and light up accordingly), but nothing happens after selecting a cycle and hitting the start button. I was convinced the door latch micro switches were the culprit but even after replacing those switches I’m still experiencing the same issue. I then proceeded to check and test the thermal fuse and its operating correctly.
Are there any other troubleshooting steps that I should consider?
Inspect the keypad ribbon cable for broken, shorted, corroded, or sharply creased traces.
Check that the ribbon/connector is securely connected to the control board.
Look for moisture, contamination, or corrosion around the keypad, ribbon tail, and control-board connector.
Perform the keypad function test. Each key should operate its corresponding LED/function, and the correct model-specific options (such as Delay) should be available.
During the diagnostic cycle, verify that the LEDs illuminate during the initial Display Test.
If necessary, substitute a known-good control/keypad to determine which component is defective.
Testing the Key Switches
Disconnect power first. Remove connector P1 from the control board and measure the appropriate switch contacts while pressing each key.
With either an analog or digital meter, the reading should change from infinite/open circuit to a measurable resistance when the key is pressed. Because there is a diode in the keypad circuit, the exact resistance reading depends on the meter and polarity.
If your digital multimeter has Diode Test mode, the manual indicates you should see approximately 1.2 VDC for the applicable test.
The important diagnostic conclusion is:
One or more switches fail → replace the console panel/keypad assembly.
Every switch passes → replace the machine control board.
The reference to “model ID diodes” is also important. Those diodes allow the control to identify/configure the particular keypad/model. An open or shorted ID diode can therefore produce strange symptoms—incorrect key-to-LED mapping or missing/incorrect features—even though the dishwasher may otherwise appear to respond to the keypad.
