Brand: KitchenAid
Model Number: KRFC704FSS00
Main Symptom: Control panel shorting
What happens & when: We recently started noticing our 9.5-year-old KRFC704FSS00 control panel started beeping randomly. Within 2 days, the frequency increased and we noticed that when this beeping happened, the control panel seemed to turn off and on again and the beeping was the sound of the panel turning on. The sequence occurs within a few seconds and does give “electrical shortage” vibes. This morning when we came down to the kitchen, we noticed a small puddle of water on the floor and then realized the water tray was full and had overflowed. After that, I observed the fridge for a while and noticed a very clear pattern/sequence of events:
- The fridge would make an actuator sound like the water or ice was dispensing (sometimes this would be accompanied by a small amount of water trickling from the dispenser and sometimes not)
- The control panel would turn off
- The control panel would turn back on 1-2 seconds later
- The control panel would beep
Separately, we would also occasionally notice the interior fridge light would flicker a bit when the door was opened.
The fridge is otherwise cooling fine and Sabbath mode takes care of the beeping problem, but ultimately makes the fridge less functional. Would really like to fix this if we can. We called one repair guy who said you’d have to replace the entire door which is no longer available and basically said you’re SOL. That felt extreme so I just wanted to get a second opinion before we abandon all hope of repair.
Thanks in advance to all who take the time to read and provide inputs. We really appreciate it.
