Hello, i have a brand new Kitchenaid kgrs807sss gas range and am already having troubles with the oven. The flame does not light on the bake burner consistently. It always lights right off when the oven is cold but once it gets up to about 325 it wont light always. I can hear the gas valve open and hear the gas flowing and the igniter snapping about 4 times and then valve shuts off and igniter stops to try again in about one minute. Usually it lights after a couple tries but not always and you can smell gas in the oven. One time after about three tries it shut off and must be turned off and restarted again. I had a service tech here today and he adjusted the airflow to the flame at the back and it worked while he was here and now already it is not working again. I have read up about the 8 holes in the lighting area of the tube and yes it has 8 holes.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Hi.
You have two options:
Call the Whirlpool warranty service or if the broil works OK - enlarge the burner pilot holes to the next drill bid size.
Good luck. Post the results.
Simon.
Thanks Simon for the super fast and helpful reply! I will try that and post the results. FYI I just tried to run the selfclean mode twice and both times it shut off because at the hot temperature it tried the three times to start up again after reaching its temp and then locked out and had to be restarted from cool. So it obviously has something to do with when it gets hot. Any idea why this is? I am a mechanic myself and am trying to understand why this is happening. I’ve done tons of camping and barbequeing and have never seen anythin like this before. I was sure the service tech would know right away what was wrong but he also seemed to be shooting from the hip.
BTW i forgot to mention the broil works flawlessly.
Hi.
It has to do with not enough gas flow when it’s gets hot.

Well that didnt help…
So i have it fixed now. Turns out that this model has an adjustable orifice for the gas. It must not have been set up right at the factory for this elevation (approx 4000 ft) and was way overfueled. With so much gas the flame actually lifts off of the burner tube and there fore there is not a combustable mixture at the distance away that the igniter is at. Turned it down till it had a nice flame right off the burner and now works great. In all the research i have done to try to fix this nowhere was this mentioned so i hope this helps anyone out there having similar problems.
Hi.
Thank you for the helpful input. It’s good to know about the altitude adjustment.
Thank you again.
Simon.

Hi Russell,
I am having the same problem with my KGRS807. Can you explain how to adjust the gas flow? I had a repair man out here that replaced the Valve and ignitor (goodbye $700) only to find that I am having the same problem of it not always igniting, especially after it has warmed up.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Mark
Hi Mark,
Can you describe the problem more detailed please?
Is your range located at a high elevation too?
The model number you posted is incomplete. Verify and repost it please.
Gene.
We have the KGRS807SSS. We are not at high altitude, we live in Chicago, but we are experiencing the same problem. The oven will start and preheat, but when it tries to light during heating, it will click 4 times and then stop. Sometimes when the oven attempts to light again in a minute or so, it will successfully ignite, but that is uncommon. We can hear and smell the gas flowing during the 4 “clicks”, but the gas will not ignite, even though the ignitor was replaced along with the valve.
We are seriously bummed! Our Kitchen Aid is 6 years old and in good shape, but we are just dismayed that after spending all that money to purchase, and then “repair” it still wont work.
Thanks!
Does it do the same thing with the Broil?
Gene.
Thanks for the response Gene,
The broil function seems to act in the same manner, sometimes it lights and sometimes it does not.
You are welcome.
Make sure the igniters for both burners are properly aligned. If there is nothing wrong, replace the spark module (#10 at the diagram).
