Brand:Kitchenaid
Model Number:KFXS25RYMS0
Main Symptom:Ice Maker stopped making ice
What happens & when: Ice maker stopped making ice although water valve new and replacement ice maker installed.
Error Code (if any): None
Parts or tests already tried:
Ice maker no longer made ice. I replaced the water valve and ensured the fill pipe was not frozen. I can see water flow into the unit.
When jumping the unit or cycling power, it will run a harvest cycle and fill with water and the ice will freeze but will not harvest or make any additional ice.
The temperature near the ice mold is between 0 and 7 degrees F (depending on what I use to measure it)
I ran through testing the motor, heater, etc OHMs using a video from Appliance pros and looked ok but Thermostat looked off.
I believed it could be the thermostat, so just replaced the full ice maker assembly with WPW10300024. That part arrived pretty banged up from shipment with a damaged box but no visible damage to the unit so I installed it. It was not making ice and the swing arm was up so I pushed that down and it made one that was harvested and no more. Not sure if the new part is broken or if there is a different problem.
Does anyone know what would cause this behavior that I have not already tested?

Based on your description, it sounds like there could be a temperature issue. You are unlikely to have two ice makers fail in the same way. Using a pro-style thermometer with remote leads, check the temp at the icemaker over a 24-hour time span to get an accurate reading.
Hi, I put a thermometer in the ice bin for 24 hours and it measured around 5 degrees F, an infrared thermometer pointed at the mold reads - 1 degree F. Not sure if it helps but, if I cut power to the refrigerator and then turn it on again, it looks like the icemaker runs through a cycle mechanically (tines rotate around) but does not fill. I can hear it occasionally running through but not filling (hear the bin arm go up and down and buzzing). I tried jumping the T and H holes with a wire but the unit does not do anything in response to that. I have checked if the fill tube was frozen and it does not look like it (it actually had filled the mold previously) and I have already replaced the valves. Any thoughts of what to test next?
Hi, I am just getting back to this and tested a little further. I have left a thermometer in the ice compartment and it is reading about 6 degrees +/– 1.5 degrees. Not sure if that is on the edge to make it not produce ice. I jumped the terminals and it forces a cycle, the ice maker fills and it makes ice. It seems like it will then harvest the ice and then it does not refill. Occasionally, I can hear the ice maker arm move up and down (it squeeks) and then it sounds like it is calling for water but it does not fill. If I force another cycle, it will fill and I have already replaced the valve so that all looks good. It does seem to me to be either thermistor or temperature related. If this is due to an issue where the ice maker compartment is not cold enough and has to be closer to 0, what could I do to get it colder (I already turned the freezer compartment colder but that did not change much). Thanks
Thanks for the diagram, here is what was measured.
Ice maker plugged in
- Point L to N - no voltage - made sure door switch was closed but still no voltage
- Point T to H - had continuity when cold
- Point V to N resistance of 181 ohm when open, could not test fill valve when fill switch closed
Ice Maker Unplugged
- Point L to H - 49 ohms
- point L to M - 66 ohms - this bounced around with auto ranging multimeter but not manual range one. I cut power to the unit but still plugged in.
I also re-verified and decreased temp in Freezer. Freezer had been between -4 and -1 and the ice bin between 1 and 5 degrees. Any thoughts on what the issue might be?
