Kitchenaid Dishwasher KUDI01TJBL0, new door gasket appears to be too thick, door won't close

What happens & when: after installing new gasket

purchased AP5650274 (W10542314) “Whirlpool Gasket and Strike Kit”. Installed the new gasket but it is much thicker than the original that it replaced, and the door won’t shut fully. Is this the correct part? do i force the door and hope it becomes more pliable? Thanks!

Hello, this happens on the newer style gaskets. They have to be "broken in’ I have actually had to wedge a chair up against the door and let it run through a few cycles. As the gasket is heated up and a new ridge is pressed into the gasket, it eventually will close properly and stay closed through the cycle.
