Brand: KitchenAid Model Number: KSSC48QMS02 Main Symptom: Will not crush ice What happens & when: will dispense whole ice cubes (slowly) but has trouble with crushed ice. It will start to crush, but it seems to bind up as it slows until it stops. The top of the auger shaft (the piece that “stirs” the ice in the bin) seems to be loose - it wobbles instead of feeling secure in its mounting. Emptied the ice bin, examined blades, and tightened the screw at the bottom of the upper auger assembly. I did not remove blades (have heard those stories!). Reinstalled the bin and allowed it to fill to less than halfway. Tried crushing, but got the same result.
Q: Are any parts still available for this model, or can an adjustment be made to correct the problem?
Error Code (if any): No error code
Parts or tests already tried:tested as described

Aside from tightening everything down and making sure that there is no air leak in the door that would cause frost build up, the ice bin would most likely need to be replaced but has been discontinued by the manufacturer with no suitable replacement available.
Typically the crusher cover on top of the blades would not have anything to do with the auger arm being so loose. It is possible that the auger arm could be damaged and causing this issue.
Ed, thanks for your update. I carefully disassembled the auger and blabes assembly. It looks like at the bottom of the bin, where the auger comes through, the hole is oval, no round. I think that is allowing the auger to wobble under the stain of crushing. I am looking into making a flanged bushing (sleeve bearing) that can seat in the worn cylindrical pocket and restore concentricity. Either a machined stainless steel insert of a 3-D printed piece.
