Kitchen Aid - Will Fill and Drain, but Not Clean

I’m struggling with my dishwasher repair. The triage:

  • the tub will fill
  • it will drain the tub
  • the spray arms move freely. They are clean and free of debris. But the dishes in either the upper rack or lower rack are not anything more than “damp”.
  • I dissassembled the pump and motor. The filter was badly damaged. I ordered a replacement filter and installed it, but the symptoms persisted. Otherwise, the pump looked clean and free of debris.
  • the heater element works.
  • but the dishes don’t get clean at all.
  • otherwise it makes the usual noises during the cycle.

It is a Kitchen Aid, model KDTM354DSS4 that is about 18 months old.

Any ideas? Any other information needed to assist with the diagnosis and repair options?

I purchased a new wash pump and motor, but the problem remains. What’s the next move? Fill it with firecrackers and blow it up in the back yard?
