Kitchen Aid Superba - Sometimes won't drain

I have a Kitchen Aid Superba dishwasher that will sometimes get “stuck” and not run the drain cycle. The water is just sitting in the bottom of the basin.

I found by googling around that I could manually kick off the drain cycle by pressing ‘start’ and ‘cancel’ together on the control panel. When I do this is starts up a 2-minute drain cycle that seems to work fine. I can hear and see the water draining into the garbage disposal. It finishes draining in about 1.5 minutes.

Usually after I do that it will drain itself for the next few runs, but eventually it’ll stop draining again and it won’t self-drain until I manually drain it.

I’ve ensured that the garbage disposal is clear and free of debris. The line is clear as well, and has no kinks, although I haven’t yet pulled the washer out of the cupboard to see behind it.

The paperwork indicates it was installed in December 2002. I’ve only owned the house for a little over three years.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Ben if you’re out there, did you ever resolve this? I’ve got a kitchenaid with the same problem. I’ve cleaned, replaced the drain pump and check valve, confirmed the drain is clear etc and have the same problem. Tends to happen more when the dishes aren’t completely clear of debris before starting the cycle. Any insight you have on resolution would be great. My wife is leaning toward ending my troubleshooting project and buying a new one.
