Brand: Kitchen Aid
Model Number: KDPe334gps0
Main Symptom: appears to run, but no water. Smells like something burning
What happens & when: I didn’t realize it until I went to unload the dishwasher, but a metal spoon was on the heating element while the dishwasher ran. Thanks to my son for his haphazard losing. Dishes didn’t get clean smoky smell, metal spoon brown. Attempted to run the dishwasher again thinking it would be fine now that spoon is removed. It seemed like it was working, but when it was done, nothing ran. The tablets were still intact. No water. Tried just a rinse cycle, no water. I troubleshooting it and it makes it sound like it’s either the thermal fuse or a control board. All the lights and buttons still work it even gives me the washing status and tells me it’s clean, but nothing happens. I had called in because I couldn’t find the thermal fuse on my dishwasher or as a part for replacement. What is my other option?

When you start the cycle, does it sound like the water inlet valve is running/letting in water? Does it sound like a motor is running other than the drain pump?

It sounds like the motor is running, but no water.

That could be a bad water inlet valve AP6339872, may want to check the resistance value of that valve. Should be about 890Ω-1600Ω. If that’s good you may need to see if that valve is getting 120v AC when it should be filling.

Hi, we took the water inlet valve off and tested it several ways. It is definitely working as it should. The dishwasher had an electrical smoky smell to it, which is why I was initially thinking the thermal fuse or control board.

That heating element may have shorted and backfed the control board.

Here’s the tech sheet for that model, it goes over the testing and what readings you’re looking for. I’d check pretty thoroughly where you can just to make sure nothing else got damaged.

Thank you! We were able to reset it based on the tech sheet. It is now working properly.
