Kitchen aid dishwasher fuse keep blowing

Brand:Kitchen Aid
Model Number:KDFE204KPS3
Main Symptom: fuse keep blowing
What happens & when: shopped working in the middle of cycle. My kitchen aid dish washer’s line fuse keep blowing. It’s not a regular dishwasher line fuse. It’s a glass tube fuse with axial lead on both side, and lead attached with a connection wire. I changed the fuse twice already and both only worked for about a week.

Hi,

The in-line fuse?

#18?

Are you changing the whole harness or just the fuse?

A copy:

This inline fuse is a replaceable safety device that protects your appliance’s wiring and components from overcurrent. It restores circuit protection so the appliance can operate safely after a blown fuse is replaced. What it does:

  • Protects the wiring harness and electrical components by interrupting power if a short or overload occurs

  • Commonly used where a single-point fuse is needed inline with a circuit

  • Resolves symptoms like a non-starting unit, intermittent power loss, or a tripped circuit when caused by a blown fuse

  • Works as part of the appliance’s electrical protection system when installed in the proper harness location

What’s included: One inline fuse component Install notes:

  • Disconnect power to the appliance before inspecting or replacing the fuse

  • Visually check the blown fuse or use a multimeter before replacing

  • Install only in the correct harness location and ensure secure wire connections

  • If the replacement fuse blows immediately, stop and diagnose the underlying short or fault

This fuse commonly fails from the heating circuit or the circulation pump circuit having a short to ground. With the power supply turned off and the front door panel removed, the circuits can be tested for continuity to ground from the main control. The blue wires with red stripes at the left side of the main control can be tested for continuity to the metal frame of the dishwasher. If there is continuity, check the heater and the thermostats directly after disconnecting the wires from each part as it is being tested. If there is not continuity, there are light blue wires for the circulation pump at connection P5 can that be tested in the same manner. Do you find there is continuity to ground on either test point?

Yes. The in line fuse. Can I use without in line fuse?

I tested the continuity, there is continuity on the blue red wire, also other wires.

If you slide the dishwasher out just enough to access the heating element terminals, disconnect the wires and test the element terminals for continuity to ground, does the element have continuity to ground? If it does, the element would need to be replaced. The in-line fuse is a necessary part as it is a safety device. W11537778 Heating Element Assembly | Genuine Whirlpool OEM In Stock

Yes. The in line fuse. Can I use without in line fuse?

Are you changing just the fuse or the whole wire harness and fuse??

No I would not use the d/w with the fuse bypassed or removed.

Resistance Testing: Dishwasher Heating Element

To test the resistance of a dishwasher heating element, follow these steps:

  1. Turn off the power to the dishwasher and disconnect it from the power source.

  2. Remove the bottom panel or access panel to expose the heating element.

  3. Use a multi-meter set to the ohms setting to measure the resistance of the heating element.

  4. Remove the wires going to the element.

  5. Touch the probes to the terminals of the heating element. A reading within the expected range indicates continuity, meaning the heating element is functioning properly. If the reading is infinite or no continuity, it means the heating element is faulty and needs replacement. To see if the element is grounded, read between each side of the element terminals to the sheath of the element. If you read continuity, the element is grounded and should be replaced.
