Kerosene smell while dryer is heating

I have an Elba DG60F27EW11 gas dryer. Recently it is emitting a kerosene odor while in the heating cycle. I have read on other internet sites questioning if we were painting. We were and there was empty paint liners with some paint left in them. I grasp that the air intact could cause this problem. It has been several days and all the paint is removed from the area and the rooms painted, which are on another floor, are dry so I don’t believe there is still contaiminated air intake.

With the dryer empty and on high heat, I open it while the heat element is On and I still smell the odor. I have run it several times on high heat while empty in hopes of flushing the smell out and it still seems to have the same degree of smell. I have cleaned the lint trap, exhaust port and exhaust hose to the outside.

This is definitely a kerosene type smell, not eggs from gas or a burning smell.

Any additional thoughts would be great.

Thanks,
Darrell

what happened? I have the same issue. Ran the dryer and left. Hubby painted the bathroom and I’ve had a terrible smell ever since.
