Replaced lid switch on my 7 yr old Kenmore washer several months ago. It agitates, fills, drains but drum will not spin. A few months ago, our basement flooded with about 12" of water that may or may not have had some affect on the washer. Looking under it, it all looks clean with some surface rust on the pump housing. There were no belts so I assume it’s a “direct drive”. Is replacing the brakes or clutch (should should either be needed) a DIY affair or should I call a technician? is it possible it could be an electrical problem in the control panel? Thanks for any advice you can render.
If it is draining then the motor is turning so the likely problem is the clutch/brake assembly.
It is a good DIY project, and this video will take you through the process.
